12 January 10:Habitat Hunting for the Environment
ENVIRO
property specialist Habitat Environment Management has completed the first
stage of a major ecological and environmental rejuvenation project at the $41
million Huntington Downs estate in Maudsland.
Developed
by Hatia Property Corporation and located perfectly in rolling hinterland,
Huntington Downs is surrounded by a natural bush environment, matured trees and
an array of flora and fauna.
Habitat
Environment Management Director Matt Keys and his team have worked closely with
the developer rehabilitating the surrounding flora and fauna by reintroducing a
natural ecological corridor between the Nerang State Forest and the Coomera
River.
“Huntington
Downs has been an exciting project to work on, preserving and rejuvenating the
heavily forested ridgeline to protect rare and endangered flora and fauna by
reintroducing species to the natural riparian zone,” said Matt Keys.
“We’ve
really enjoyed working with Hatia Property Corporation at Huntington Downs who
are extremely enviro-conscious. We initially completed a comprehensive
ecological assessment of the area and then implemented and actioned an
environmental master plan alongside the developer,” said Matt Keys.
“The
first stage at Huntington Downs was to fill in the missing link between the
heavily forested ridgeline and the nearest point of the Coomera River. In order
to achieve this we reconstructed the area in the creek corridor linking the
existing vegetation with that of the river’s habitat.
“By
filling in the missing link we’ve created a fully functional environmental
corridor that will cater for and support the needs of the existing flora and
fauna in the area. By conducting the ecological assessment of the site we
identified which species are supported and which required the reintroduction of
various endangered flora in order to balance the surrounding ecosystem.
“These
types of rejuvenation projects are absolutely vital for the successful movement
of fauna and the ongoing transmigration of native flora seeding. In the process
of the restoration project at Huntington Downs, we also corrected a significant
erosion problem which was a result from the sites previous life as a grazing
farm.”
Hatia
Property Corporation managing director Faisal Hatia, said that when they first
purchased the site which is now Huntington Downs, they became the custodians
responsible for the surrounding bush environment.
“It
was our objective to protect the Huntington Downs site and rehabilitate the
surrounding bush land to ensure a major positive environmental impact and leave
the area in a better condition than before we purchased the site,” said Mr
Hatia.
“By
working with Habitat we have achieved this and more. Now the future residents
of the development can enjoy the surrounding bush land and a perfect country
lifestyle.”
